Contours Express opens in Oxford

There’s a new place to work out in Oxford, but it’s for ladies only.
A Contours Express has opened at 605 S. Lapeer Rd. (Suite B). It’s the latest addition to the franchise’s more than 300 fitness and weight loss centers around the United States.
The Oxford location is owned by Julie Brown, who also owns a Contours Express in Rochester on Collins Rd.
‘We cater to women by providing a full health and wellness program,? she said.
Contours Express focuses on ‘two major things,? according to Brown ? regular exercise and healthy eating.
The regular exercise can be accomplished through a 29-minute ‘full body workout? using the center’s Cardio Fit Exercise System.
Ladies start on the stationary bike to warm up. They then move on to a 16-piece training circuit in which users alternate between strength training machines and aerobic (or cardio) stations.
A cue tape keeps members moving through the circuit at a steady pace. Members spend 45 seconds at each station, going around the entire circuit twice.
Following completion of the circuit, members wrap up their workout with some stretching.
‘Women can burn up to 600 calories in one workout,? Brown said. ‘We encourage women to come in three or four times a week.?
As for the ‘healthy eating? portion of the program, Brown the focus is on ‘portion control? (how much you eat) and ‘eating the right things.?
‘Most people don’t know what the correct portions (of food) are and are probably eating double, and sometimes triple, the right portion or serving size,? she said. ‘We also focus on the standard food pyramid, the one everyone learned in school. We talk about eating the right combination of vegetables, fruits, grains. . .sugars and sodium in moderation.?
Brown said the Contours Express programs is about producing ‘long-term results.?
‘It’s not a fad diet or take a pill to lose weight or surgical reduction,? she said.
Brown said Contours Express is structured as a ‘life-style behavior modification program.?
‘We can teach the regular exercise and all of the elements of healthy eating, but unless people work on changing some of those negative habits and focus on making proper eating and working out a part of their life-style, it can be a short-term thing,? she said. ‘So, we really focus on changing and incorporating these good habits into your routine.?
Each and every lady who joins Contours Express will experience a customized program tailored to meet their individual needs and goals, Brown said.
‘Not everyone comes in for the same thing,? Brown said. ‘For some, it’s weight loss. For others it’s about toning. Some are here for strength training.?
Some members come in because they have a ‘note from their doctor? saying they need regular exercise because of high cholesterol, high blood pressure or they had a heart attack, she said.
Each new member receives a ‘fitness assessment? and ‘full health profile? followed by a ‘walk through of their individual goals.?
