Oakland County Sheriff investigators are looking for a man who flashed a knife in an unsuccessful attempt to rob the Subway shop in the Independence Town Square shopping center at Sashabaw and Waldon roads.
The incident occurred at about 10:25 p.m. on Nov. 22, according to reports from the Independence Township sheriff substation.
The store manager said a man entered the store, appeared nervous when ordering a sandwich, and while at the cash register asked if the manager could give change from a $100 bill.
When the manager rang up the purchase and opened the cash drawer, the suspect pulled out a three-inch long, gold-colored knife and held it on the counter near the manager’s hands.
The manager immediately closed the cash drawer and backed away from the counter, bumping into another store employee, who turned around to see the suspect, reports said.
The man left the store without getting any money, and employees said he drove away in a small, box-type pickup truck similar to a Chevrolet S-10. Employees were unable to get a license plate number.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with medium build, brown eyes, black hair, wearing a black leather jacket and a cream-colored sweater.
Employees worked with a sheriff’s artist, who produced a sketch of the suspect.
