Oxford Head coach Kurt Nuss wasn’t very pleased with his squads opening play in their 0-10 loss against Romeo. ‘The guys just didn’t come to play,? Nuss said.
Hoping for a better effort against Richmond, Coach Nuss’s team didn’t disappoint. The Wildcats emerged victorious against the Blue Devils in both games, 3-1 and 7-5, thanks in part to a more aggressive attempt at the plate and a strong defensive showing. Senior Jeremy Bukoski started on the mound in the first game and was awarded the win, and relief pitcher Mike Simpson recorded the save. Senior Jim Carrier went 2-2 at the plate. Oxford scored their first run in the second inning, and two runs in the third. Their defense only allowed Richmond one run in the third.
In the second game, Kyle Oliver took the mound and was relieved by Mike Simpson, who again was awarded the save. Joel Grifka had an RBI and a run scored. Oxford started the game off swinging; scoring 5 runs in the first inning which gave the wildcats a lead they held the entire game. The Wildcats are 2-1 and league play is to begin on April 11 versus Holly. After battling key injuries on the team and placing sixth in the FML last season, a healthy Wildcat squad is looking to be fierce competitors in the league this season.
