An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputy was in the midst of conducting a routine traffic stop on Hummingbird, in the Orion Lakes Manufactured Home Community on Brown Road, when a passenger in the vehicle being stopped decided to take off on foot.
The driver of the vehicle was a 24-year-old Pontiac man, with two passengers, including a 19-year-old Waterford man, in the rear of the vehicle.
According to the OCSD report, the deputy could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as he approached, during the early morning on Sept. 13.
While the deputy was making contact with the driver, the rear passenger fled the scene, prompting the deputy to chase him for several blocks.
The suspect refused verbal commands to stop, and the deputy eventually deployed his taser to maintain control of the situation.
The suspect, who had an outstanding felony warrant for illegal drugs, was treated by Orion Township Fire personnel after complaining of leg pain.
He was released and lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
