This April, Scripps Middle School was fortunate to host Mr. Phillip Freund (left), a childhood survivor of the Holocaust.
Mr. Freund spoke to 7th grade students about his life and his experiences as a passenger on the SS St. Louis.
The experience caused one student to write, ‘I felt like I was able to know more than what I had read in books.?
Another commented, ‘his story makes me thankful for everything I have.?
History ‘came alive? for Scripps students, particularly one who later said, ‘it was incredible that I was standing in the same room as someone from the Holocaust.?
