Primary info

Next week, Republicans and Democrats in Oxford and Addison townships will go to the polls to choose who they want to be their political party’s nominee for U.S. president.
The Tuesday, Jan. 15 presidential primary will be what’s called a ‘closed? primary. A closed primary means voters will be required to declare whether they are voting Republican or Democratic prior to receiving a ballot.
Nine GOP candidates will be featured on the Republican ballot even though Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo and Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback have withdrawn from the race.
Only three of the six Democratic candidates will be on that party’s ballot. Democratic candidate Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd appears on the Michigan ballot as a fourth candidate because he withdrew too late.
Voters will be required to show current photo identification at the polls. If they don’t have a photo ID, they will be required to sign an affidavit stating they are who they say they are.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
In Oxford, voters can cast a ballot at the following locations ? Oxford Veterans Memorial Civic Center (Precinct 1); Oxford Elementary School (Precincts 2 & 7); Oxford Free Methodist Church (Precincts 3 & 5); Christ the King Church (Precinct 4); Oxford Public Library (Precinct 6).
In Addison, cast your ballot at Rowland Hall (Precinct 1); Addison Township offices (Precinct 2); Fire Station #1 (Precinct 3).
