Bowlers place 10th at tourney

After a few rough weeks of bowling, the Oxford Varsity bowling teams swung back into action this past Saturday at Romeo for a non-league tournament ? both the girls? and boys? team placing 10th.
‘There were some very good teams there and it was a great experience for our bowlers,? Coach J.R. Lafnear said.
On Sunday, the teams resumed league play against Lake Orion at 300 Bowl in Waterford.
The boys? team was eager for its first win of the season, though after losing both baker games, it didn’t look so promising.
With junior Steven Lafnear’s 217 game, junior Brandon Burgess? 200 and sophomore Mike Magyars? 210, the team got itself back into the match, winning four of the five head-up matches. In game two, junior James Roberts and senior Ben Griggs each threw seven strikes in a row, ending with a 228 and 230 game, respectively.
The team won the match 18-12. Their record in the Northern Lakes Conference is now 1-3.
‘As coach, I couldn’t have been prouder of the team’s effort and the leadership the seniors showed,? Lafnear said.
Although the boys conquered their first win, the girls didn’t quite follow in their footsteps, losing 3-27. Highlights included sophomore Anna Tomaka, who won her match 140-133. High games included junior Liz Laframboise (163), sophomore Sarah Decker (168) and junior Ashlee High (168).
The Wildcats take on Walled Lake Central this Sunday at Cherry Hill Lanes North in Clarkston.
