A 22-year-old pregnant Oxford woman was seriously injured Thursday night when an SUV plowed into her 1480 Ray Road home and struck her as she laid in bed.
As a result of the crash, Bobbie Rae Shell was listed in critical condition at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The mother of one is 16 weeks pregnant.
Both Shell and her baby were reported to be in stable condition as of 6 p.m. Friday, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Perry.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Erik Patrick Miller, 20, of Oxford, reportedly lost control of his 1995 GMC Yukon as he was traveling south on Oxford Road around 11:40 p.m.
The vehicle was unable to stop at the stop sign located where Oxford Road intersects Ray Road. Investigators said the vehicle skidded through the intersection, across the lawn of 1480 Ray Road, then struck the northwest corner of Shell’s home, which happened to be her bedroom.
Shell was lying in bed when the SUV struck her, knocking her through the northwest wall. Miller’s Yukon continued on and came to rest in a heavy brush area.
The young man was taken to the North Oakland Medical Center for a blood draw and released to his family.
Sheriff’s investigators said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
