Hats off to Tanner Saxon!

Bravo to Lakeville Elementary fourth-grader Tanner Saxon who donated two shopping carts full of items to the Desert Angel packing party held Sept. 11 at the Oxford Meijer.
Instead of receiving gifts or money for his 9th birthday back in June, Tanner asked those invited to his party to bring items for U.S. troops stationed overseas in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.
‘He went on-line and researched what the soldiers were asking for, what they needed,? said his mother Jennifer Saxon. ‘I think more kids should do it.?
Tanner sent out a list of items ? from basic necessities to little comforts from home ? with his party invitations.
Between 18 and 20 kids brought more than $300 worth of items to the party such as squirt guns, lip balm, socks, foot powder, sports drink packets, deodorant, shaving razors, etc.
Not one to just drop and run, Tanner stayed at the Meijer to help pack boxes for the troops.
We applaud the efforts of this selfless and helpful young man and hope others are encouraged by his fine example.
