Boys track team takes West Bloomfield, girls fall behind

The Lake Orion High School Boys Track Team pulled out another win on May 6, taking a 68-60 victory over West Bloomfield.
Running at LOHS, the Dragons were on top of their game, with senior Tony Heck taking first place finishes in both the long jump (19-8 1/2) and the high jump (5-10).
Junior Erik Wallace took the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.99, and the 300 hurdles in 42.42. Wallace was also the winner of the 200 dash, with a time of 22.52.
Lake Orion’s 400 relay team took first with a time of 45.1, and sophomore Billy Peterson had a big day, taking the 1600 run (4:40.43) and the 3200 run (10:25.26). Junior Keith Magic won the 800 run with a time of 2:04.86.
The Lake Orion girls team fell to the Lakers 70-57, and to Farmington Hills Harrison 87-51. The Harrison score for the boys team was not available.
Lake Orion sophomore Jennifer Thompson took the long jump (13-7), and the Lake Orion 3200 relay team of Ashley Wharton, Kaitlyn Wightman, Kathleen Reilly and Jenny Sutter were winners.
Lake Orion tied with West Bloomfield in the high jump event, with Lake Orion’s Heather Neary going 4-4.
Senior Lauren Yurgens won the shot put (28-7) for Lake Orion, while Wharton took the 1600 run (5:43.57). Wharton also won the 3200 run with a time of 12:08.79.
Sophomore Meaghan Walters took first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.87.
Lake Orion will travel to regionals on May 16, and the league meet on May 20. LOHS will host the county meet on May 23.
