ADDISON TWP. ? A fire in the Hidden Lake Estates mobile home park last week claimed a man’s life.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, Addison firefighters were called to 303 Winding Brook where they found a single-wide mobile home with smoke and flames showing.
The fire was brought under control within 11 minutes of the department’s arrival on the scene.
During a primary search of the home, one deceased occupant, a male, was found laying on the floor in the doorway between the bedroom and hallway.
‘Whether or not he was trying to get out, we don’t know,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Newman.
According to Newman, a preliminary report from the medical examiner indicated the man died as the result of smoke inhalation.
As of March 24, the sheriff’s department still could not release the name of the victim.
‘We cannot identify him yet,? Newman said. ‘We know who lived there, but as far as a positive ID, we haven’t got that yet. We’re waiting for the dental records.?
It’s known that a 42-year-old man was residing in the home at the time of the fire.
‘We’ve notified the family of the person that lived there, but we haven’t identified the body yet,? Newman said.
The sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit is looking into what caused the blaze. According to Det. Art Schrah, the fire appears to have been accidental, however, the exact cause has not been pinpointed.
‘I think it’s been determined that the person there was a smoker, but we haven’t determined that that could be (the cause),? Newman said.
Two Addison firefighters sustained minor burn injuries while battling the blaze.
During the fire, Addison received mutual aid from the Oakland Township Fire Department.
