A man who allegedly robbed, beat, hogtied and nearly drowned a ‘friend? at his Independence Township apartment is being held at Oakland County Jail while he awaits trail.
Jason Stephen Szydlek, 34, was arraigned at 52-2 District Court on charges of unarmed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
His victim, a 35-year-old Springfield Township man, told police he went Szydlek’s apartment, ate pizza and fell asleep on the couch after calling his friend for a ride when his car broke down around 10 p.m. March 7.
The victim said he woke in the early morning hours of March 8 and went to question Szydlek after noticing his phone, necklace and prescription pain medication were missing.
The victim claimed he gathered his belongings after spotting them on Szydlek’s dresser, and went back to the couch only to be dragged off and knocked out; when he woke he was ‘being hogtied, gagged, blindfolded, beaten and drowned in the bathtub.?
It was several hours, he said, before he was untied and allowed to leave.
A passer-by picked up the victim as he walked down Andersonville Road and gave him a ride home.
The man had injuries consistant with being bound and gagged, said Independence Township Detective John MacDonald, who was investigating the case.
Szydlek is being held on $50,000 bond.
