Ever wonder what happened to all those creepy monsters that used to lurk under your bed when you were a kid?
Well, they’re putting on a play at the Oxford High School Performing Arts Center.
Parents and kids of all ages are invited to the Oxford Theater Company’s performance of ‘The Monsters Under the Bed? scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31.
The play, directed by students Sam Anderson and Mallory Skilling, centers around a group of young girls whose fun sleep-over turns into a nightmare when monsters start coming out from under the bed.
As each girl describes her own personal fear, those fears come to life in the form of Crumplebump (the funny noises monster played by Katie Paul), The Final Freak (the math test monster played by Skyler Buffmyer), Big Bad Boom (the thunderstorm monsters played by Stephene MacKinder and Ben Lemanski) and a host of other terrifying creatures that go bump in the night.
But fear not, with the aid of a friendly monster named Gruntable (played by Steve Nara), the other creatures are banished as the girls help each other overcome their fears.
The play is designed to entertain and help kids get over their fears, be they in the classroom, at the doctor’s office or in the dark.
Unlike previous performances, this one is completely free of charge, according to Theater Company Adviser Debra Brown.
‘We wanted to do it as a thank you to the community for supporting us throughout the year,? she said.
The Boogeyman gave this play two thumbs up. Don’t believe it?
Just open your closet and ask him.
