Netters raise $3,000

The Lake Orion Community Schools Dragon Guided Activities Program (GAP) and Special Education Department held their First Annual Lake Orion Benefit Volleyball Tournament on Feb. 1.
Twenty co-ed adult teams from the greater Oakland County area participated in the daylong event held at Lake Orion High School.
The Closers team captured the Competitive Division championship by defeating the Shockers in the best-of-three final match. In Intermediate Division play, the Notorious D.I.G. team spiked the Old Gang to win the title.
Over $3,000 was raised to benefit the Special Education Department and GAP student activities programs. The proceeds from the tournament will be utilized directly for new activity supplies and equipment needs.
Due to budget cuts, both programs also have many opportunities for community involvement and volunteerism, and public monetary and in-kind contributions.
To volunteer with or contribute to the Special Education Department or GAP, contact Dragon GAP Coordinator Ben Gerdeman at 693-5458, or Sheri Brandon, school social worker, at 693-5430.
