Historical Society celebrates 10th anniversary

Clarkston Community Historical Society celebrates is own history with a 10th anniversary open house, 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, at Independence Township Library, 6495 Clarkston Road.
The open house also debuts Clarkston Heritage Museum’s latest exhibit, ‘The Way We Learned: 100 Years of Clarkston Schools,? as well as brand-new museum signs.
‘We opened our museum in 1999 with a Clarkston schools exhibit and we thought it would be fun to revisit a school theme for our 10th anniversary,? said Toni Smith, museum director.
During the past decade, the museum featured 20 exhibits covering all aspects of early life in Clarkston, from wedding celebrations and funeral practices to past businesses and parades. All exhibits are funded with proceeds from Art in the Village, as well as memberships and financial donations.
‘Our exhibits always try to connect the past to how we live today, because that’s what makes history relevant and interesting,? said society President Jennifer Arkwright.
The celebration will also feature entertainment by the Carrington Duet, as well as refreshments.
