The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at Oxford High School about a weapons violation that occurred Dec. 18.
According to the sheriff’s report, the father of a 15-year-old female high school student reported to school officials that his daughter received a machete as a gift from a 15-year-old male classmate after she heard him talk about the weapon one day on the bus.
The female told the male student that she wanted the machete to carve some wood, so he brought the weapon to school the next day and gave it to her.
According to OHS Principal Mike Schweig, the machete was wrapped up and exchanged on school property, but wasn’t used at any time to harm anyone.
Schweig said both students were found to be in violation of the school’s Student Code of Conduct, which resulted in their suspension.
