Bands raise $2,100 for Haiti relief

Sixth-grader Jared Harper took out his saxophone and began playing for his hockey teammates before practice.
It was for ‘Music for Haiti,? a project formed by the members of the bands and orchestras at Sashabaw Middle School.
The students performed a small concert for family and friends. After the concert the audience could make a donation to go to the relief efforts in Haiti.
The students set a goal to raise $1,000 and they more than doubled it by raising $2,100.
‘We are very proud of our students? efforts,? said Shelley Schwaderer Roland, one of the directors at the middle school.
‘I thought it was cool because I played for people I knew,? said Harper. ‘I was ready but I was still nervous.?
Harper played for his coaches of ?95 Troy Sting, as well as his brother’s hockey team.
He said he had over $100 in donations from the performance.
Other students performed as a grouped and played around their neighborhood.
Directors involved were Roland, Justin Harris, and Wendy Stuart.
