Vote important to students

Dear Editor,
As a parent of students in Goodrich Area Schools I feel the upcoming bond proposal brings many necessary upgrades to our school facilities. The proposed multi-purpose athletic field, complete with new bleachers and bathrooms, will be a venue that helps to unite Goodrich. Is a turf field excessive? It is a fair question and a question that I even took time to ask, but when the bond is further studied one sees the long-term benefits will far outweigh the initial costs. The field will be multi-purpose, used by players from any of our many sports that need outside field space that is usable, marching bands for daily practice, dance teams, and even classes looking for an outdoor classroom.
It will serve as a springboard to bring together our many successful communities and unify everyone to support the many excellent student activities throughout the Goodrich Schools.
The multi-purpose field may be the most obvious, but there is so much more to the bond that will benefit our students. As a professional, I cannot understate the importance of having technology in our schools that prepares our students for the 21st century work environment. Having current technology for both students and educators will be an investment in preparing our students to be competitive in college and their future careers. This school bond has a lot to offer and there will be no increase in our current millage rate.
The time is now and your vote is important to our students and educators. Look over the bond at goodrich.k12.mi.us/ and vote Feb. 22.
