Bicyclists can help Kids Kicking Cancer, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, at Waterford Hills Raceway, 4770 Waterford Road.
This is the non-profit group’s second fund raiser at the raceway.
“The event went well last year,” said Cindy Cohen, Michigan program director for Kids Kicking Cancer. “We had a good turnout for the first year but we could really use more people to come out to bike or walk and support the organization.”
Bike or Walk for Kids Kicking Cancer includes competitive bike race, 9-10 a.m.; family bike ride and walk, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Helmets are required and pledges, encouraged. Food and drinks available for purchase.
Registration is $36/family; $20 for participants 16 years old and up; and $10, 5 and up.
“‘There’s a new family price this year of $36 ? that covers up to 2 adults and their kids,” Cohen said.
All proceeds benefit Kids Kicking Cancer, which provides weekly classes for in- and outpatient children in the mind-body techniques of the martial arts. The group was founded in Michigan in 1999, and offers services free to children and families.
“Our mission is to ease the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually and emotionally,? Cohen said.
Activities starting at 10 a.m. include face painting and other kids activities, Independence Township fire truck, and art for sale with a portion of proceeds going to Kids Kicking Cancer,
“We have great music donated by Living Energy,” Cohen said. “The Kids Kicking Cancer students will also demonstrate what they learn in our program with a martial arts demo.”
