At the Lake Orion Grondin’s, a girl’s prom wishes and dreams can be answered.
During their Prom Dress Extravaganza, lasting up to the date of prom, Grondin’s is giving away prom dresses for free to girls interested in taking one.
‘People bring in prom dresses and donate them to girls,? said manager Shanna White. ‘Whether they cannot afford it or just can’t find a dress.?
It all started a year ago, when a few girls were sitting in the shop near prom season. White heard one of the girls say that she would not be able to attend prom that year because she could not afford a dress. So, White dug up some of her daughters? dresses and brought them into the shop for the girl to choose from. Word got around and by the time prom rolled around, the community donated even more dresses and Grondin’s had supplied 25 grateful prom attendees.
To donate, just bring old prom dresses into the shop, located at 1081 S. Lapeer Road. Girls interested in looking at dresses are welcome to come and browse through the dresses. If they try one on and like it, girls can leave with the dress at no charge. Dresses can also be re-donated after prom.
Grondin’s is also running a prom raffle, the prize being a free updo or manicure in addition to their usual prom season services.
Still, the most memorable part for White is the gratefulness of the girls. She recalled when one girl came to the shop after prom and gave her a hug, thanking White for providing her the opportunity to go to prom.
‘We’ll keep doing it as long as there’s a need for it,? White said. ‘We think every girl should be able to go to prom.?
