Kim Malmquist has been grooming cats and dogs for nearly 20 years. It even goes back further to when she was a child.
‘When I was a kid I was always bringing home strays and grooming them before my mother got home in hopes she’d let me keep them,? she said. ‘That rarely happened, though.?
The staff has grown from two to five. Malmquist is confident her employees are fully trained, caring and patient to service all shapes, sizes, temperaments and personalities that come through the door. Owners have the option of dropping off their pet or staying with them to watch the process. All work can be seen from the front window. Everyone is welcome to a tour of the shop, whether they have a pet or not.
Kim’s Grooming takes pride in efficiently handling pets with special needs.
‘Some animals need special attention,? said Malmquist. ‘Whether it’s hyperactivity, timidness or they just don’t want to be groomed, we make them feel as comfortable as possible.?
Kim’s Grooming works well with owners who have busy schedules. Pets are welcome as early as 6:30 a.m. for clients who head out to work early. Walk-ins are accepted when possible.
The pets are cared for with only the best products and up to date technology. The Clipper Vac and the Hydro Surge systems are the perfect tools for an efficient job.
The Clipper Vac system vacuums the hair as it’s cut. It saves time and is healthier for the pet.
‘It’s not healthy for the small hairs to be breathed in by us or the dogs,? she said. ‘The Clipper Vac prevents this from happening.?
The Hyrdro-Surge system is similar to a power washer.
‘We find this tool works better than hand-washing because it more thoroughly washes and rinses the coat,? Malmquist said.
A clean-smelling pet is just as important as a good haircut. Kim’s Grooming only uses the best shampoos and conditioners. Pets with skin problems and allergies are given special medicated and oatmeal baths.
Hand-scissoring each haircut according to the dog’s individuality is one of their specialties. Tranquilizers are never used on pets.
The friendly and safe atmosphere keeps the clientele coming back. ‘We have very satisfied clients. Many of our new clients were referred to us from a friend or a family member who is a client here.?
