On June 17, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. at the Independence Township Library, located at 6495 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, Michigan 48346, the Charter Township of Independence Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on the Application by Consumers Energy for a Disruption Permit under the Right-of-Way Regulation Ordinance, to install a 300 ft deep anode system on the corner of Clarkston-Eston Road, to provide cathodic protection for Consumer’s Energy gas main. The application is on file with the Township Clerk’s Office and may be inspected during hours said office is open for business.

UNIFORM TRAFFIC CODE 2002 edition ADOPTION ORDINANCE
An Ordinance to amend, Chapter 19, Article II, Division I, Section 19-16 to adopt by reference the October 2002 Edition of the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages (UTC) for the purpose of regulating traffic and motor vehicles in the Charter Township of Independence.
THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF INDEPENDENCE ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 of Ordinance
Chapter 19, Article II of the Ordinance Code is amended by amending the Title of Division I, and the Heading that precedes it to read as follows:
ARTICLE II. TRAFFIC CODE
DIVISION I, UNIFORM TRAFFIC CODE
Section 2 of Ordinance
This Ordinance is adopted for the purpose and intent to adopt by reference the October 2002 Edition of the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages (UTC) promulgated by the director of the Michigan Department of State Police pursuant to the Administrative Procedures Act of 1969, 1969 PA 306, MCL 24.201 to 24.328 and made effective October 30, 2002, and all future amendments and revisions to the Uniform Traffic Code when they are promulgated and effective in this state, for the regulation of traffic and motor vehicles in the Charter Township of Independence. The further purpose and intent of this Ordinance is to rescind the previous version of the Uniform Traffic Code. Section 19-16 of the Ordinance code shall be amended to read as follows:
Sec. 19-16. Adoption.
The Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages is in full force and effect as promulgated by the Director of the Michigan Department of State Police pursuant to the Administrative Procedures Act of 1969, 1969 PA 306, MCL 24.201 to 24.328 and made effective October 30, 2002, and all future amendments and revisions of the Uniform Traffic Code when they are promulgated and effective in this state, are incorporated by reference.
Section 3 of Ordinance
Chapter 19 of the Ordinance Code is further amended hereby by adding Sections 19-16.1 through 19-16.3 as follows:
Sec. 19-16.1. References.
References to “municipality” or “governmental unit” in the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages shall mean the Charter Township of Independence.
Sec. 19-16.2. Copies.
Printed complete copies of the October 2002 edition of the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages shall be kept on file in the office of the Township Clerk and made available to the public at all times the office is open.
Sec. 19-16.3. Penalties.
The penalties provided in the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages are adopted by reference.
Section 4 of Ordinance
If any provision of this Ordinance is held invalid, the invalidity does not affect other provisions that can be given effect without the invalid provision. All proceedings pending and a11 rights and liabilities existing, acquired or incurred at the time this Ordinance takes effect are saved and may be consummated according to the law when they were commenced.
Section 5 of Ordinance
A summary of this Ordinance shall be published in accordance with the Charter of the Township of Independence and this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon the publication of the summary.
CERTIFICATION
It is certified that the foregoing Ordinance was duly adopted by the Township Board of the Charter Township of Independence at a meeting duly called and held on the 6th day of May, 2003.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at its regular meeting on February 7, 2012, the Charter Township of Independence Board of Trustees approved a First Reading of an Ordinance to Amend Certain Provisions of the Charter Township Code as follows:

ORDINANCE NO. 2012-02 ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING STATE LAW CONTRACTOR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
An Ordinance to amend the Charter Township of Independence Ordinance Code, Chapter 10, Article II, to implement requirements under state laws for the registration of contractor’s licenses at the Township and for the payment of registration fees.
THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF INDEPENDENCE ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS FOR INCORPORATION INTO THE TOWNSHIP CODE:
Section 1 of Ordinance
Chapter 10, Article II, Construction Codes, shall be amended to add a new Section 10-21a to read as follows:
Sec. 10-21. Registration of contractor’s licenses.
Each electrical, mechanical and plumbing contractor who performs work in the Township shall register his or her electrical, mechanical or plumbing license, as applicable, with the Township Building Department. The registration shall be valid until the expiration date of the contractor’s license. The registration shall be granted to a contractor licensed under this act upon payment of a fee of $15.00.
Section 2 of Ordinance
Any prior ordinances or terms of ordinances in direct conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3 of Ordinance
If one or more sections, provisions, phrases or words of this ordinance are declared to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such declaration shall not affect the validity of the remaining sections, provisions, phrases and words of this ordinance, which shall continue in full force and effect, and to this end, this ordinance is declared to be severable.
Section 4 of Ordinance
All proceedings pending and all rights and the liabilities existing, acquired or incurred at the time this ordinance takes effect are saved and may be consummated according to the law in force when they are commenced.
Section 6 of Ordinance
This ordinance shall be effective upon publication in the manner prescribed by law.

PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Accuracy Test
The Charter Township of Independence announces a Public Accuracy testing of the computer program for the General Election on November 2, 2004.
The testing will be held on October 20, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Independence Township Supervisor’s Conference Room, 90 N. Main Street, Clarkston, MI.
