Goodrich-Megan Cottrell, a Goodrich resident, is spending six weeks of her summer in Chicago working with inner city children.
Cottrell, a 2000 graduate of Goodrich High School and current Central Michigan University student, will be working with the Chicago Urban Project. The Chicago Urban Project is an organization associated with Inner Varsity Christian Fellowship, which has been serving inner city Chicago for 18 years.
The organization’s mission is to teach students about the dynamics of the inner city, while reaching out to its inhabitants. Cottrell will spend six weeks, from June 21 to August 2, living and working within the inner city community of Lawndale.
Cottrell will be working with a day camp for inner city kids, sponsored by Lawndale Community Church. The day camp serves inner city children, providing both educational and spiritual enrichment during the summer months.
‘I can’t wait to begin working with the kids. I am looking forward to getting to know them and giving back to the inner city community,? said Cottrell.
Because the Chicago Urban Project is a not-for-profit organization, Megan must raise all her own funds to support her stay in Chicago. She needs to raise $1,600, and currently half of the sum has been donated. Cottrell is seeking donations from local churches or any interested parties.
