Back to the water for new season

Swimmers have dived into the new season with two wins against Lake Orion and Grand Blanc and are prepping for more.
“I expect fast times,” said Clarkston Girls Swim Coach Kenwyn Chock. “I expect everyone to swim their best time. I think it’s what every coaches’ goals are – make sure all your swimmers do their personal best.”
Chock also expects the league to be competitive as it is, especially against Seaholm, which they lost to last Thursday.
“They have tons of kids,” Chock added. “Those kids learn how to swim when they are four.”
But the Lady Wolves have some powerful swimmers returning and joining the team. Last year’s state swimmers juniors Sami Stelpflug, Natalie Vela and Amber Hallman are back.
Stelpflug finished last year as All-American and three swimmers for the team’s All-American relay team are back.
“I have 12 new swimmers,” Chock said. “They all have competitive swimming background so I am looking forward to them doing well.”
“We will have more depth than we have had in the past,” added senior co-captain Kady O’Connell. “One of our strengths is the freshman class. They know how to swim. They know how to race.”
Rachel Linton, a senior co-captain agreed adding they already know them from the SeaWolves program and said they have a wide range of talent on the team.
The team is anxious for the Oakland County Meet, Oct. 6, and the state meet, beginning Nov. 16.
“We are going to be competitive,” Chock said.
The Lady Wolves next home meet is this Thursday against Farmington Hills Harrison and the last home meet is against Holly, Oct. 2. Both at 6 p.m.
“We will have a strong season,” O’Connell said “A positive season and no setbacks.”
“We are a driven team,” added Taylor Tekiele, senior co-captain. “But we are more concerned about everyone improving their times and doing the best they can.”
