Spikers are aiming for another league win as they host North Farmington this Thursday.
“I feel like they are one of our obstacles in our way of our goal of winning the league title,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Kelly Avenall. “North Farmington, Troy and Lake Orion are our big three. This will be our first big test in the league. They have a lot of big players. They have a 6’2″ player who can just smack the ball. We have to be able to play good defense.”
The Lady Wolves are hoping the skills they used last week will help.
They opened last week with a quad at home. They beat Troy Athens, 25-12 and 25-13, and Stoney Creek, 25-11 and 25-22.
They had a tougher time with Seaholm, and lost the first game, 25-17.
The girls found themselves behind in the second game, 25-19 and needed to do something quick.
They did, as they scored six unanswered points to win 25-22, and won the third game 25-12.
“We could have easily lost that match,” said Avenall. “The girls have gotten to the point they don’t freak out in situations like that. They stay relaxed. They stay positive. They know what it takes to win in situations like that so they use their past experience. They believe they can win in any situation. It will get them far.”
Rachel Dickerson had 29 kills, 30 digs and five aces and Emily Popp had 47 digs.
“They were solid,” Avenall added.
The girls defeated Farmington in a OAA Red league game 3-0, 25-14, 25-9, 25-14, putting the team 29-3-1 and 2-0 in OAA Red.
“We played really well,” said Avenall. “Farmington struggled, and it was a bad combination. All the girls got to play which was nice to get them in on a league match.”
Brianna Frakes had 27 assists, Katie Chadwell had 12 kills and five blocks, Sarah Bullen had 12 kills and Popp had 18 digs.
“Brianna served 14 points in a row on them which is pretty solid,” Avenall added. “Our hitters were on that night.”
JV begins at 5 p.m., varsity follows.
