The Clarkston Mom Squad is getting ready for their next mission trip.
They are heading to Nairobi, Kenya, with Volunteers in Service Abroad to work at an International Child Care School.
“While there, we will work with Mike and Vicki, the local contacts and assist the school located outside of the Kibera slums in whatever they need help with,” said Melanie Traver. “Possibilities include finishing a building project, running a Vacation Bible School or helping the local teachers with their classrooms.”
They will also get a chance to visit a SEED organization, which is a non-profit group that facilitates business development for people who would otherwise not be able to earn a living.
“We will get to visit a group of widows who are able to provide for their families by making paper bead jewelry,” Traver added.
To raise money for the mission trip, they are hosting “Supporting Local to Go Global,” a dinner and a show fund raiser on Jan. 26. They will have dinner, silent auction and music from local artists.
Some of the silent auction items are a private helicopter ride, hour massage from Moonbeam Massage, night out at the movies, and Tim Horton gift baskets.
“It’s a perfect time to buy any Valentine gifts and give back to a good cause at the same time,” said Traver.
All proceeds will go towards the mission trip. The cost of the dinner is just a donation.
