M-24 was backed up with traffic and littered with debris late Monday afternoon following a big three-vehicle crash in front of the Oxford Marketplace shopping center.
According to Oxford Village Police Chief Mike Neymanowski, a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, driven by a 19-year-old Oxford man, made a left-turn from the shopping center’s parking lot into oncoming traffic.
The Fiero was struck by a northbound 2003 Ford pickup truck, driven by a 45-year-old Oxford man.
The crash sent the Ford truck into M-24’s southbound lanes where it collided with a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by a 25-year-old Auburn Hills man.
Oxford firefighters had to cut off the Fiero’s roof in order to extricate the driver so he could be transported to the hospital.
The driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield when turning left.
Given the significant amount of traffic that turns in and out of the Oxford Marketplace on a daily basis, Neymanowski indicated he’s considering having a study done to determine whether a traffic signal is warranted at that location.
‘I tried for (a signal) about seven years ago, but it fell on deaf ears,? he said.
