Sometimes reading aloud is an easier experience when the audience has soft fur, floppy ears and loves to give wet kisses.
That was the case for Daniel Axford Elementary first-grader Hudson Chisholm who spent some time March 5 reading to a registered therapy dog named Charley at the Oxford Public Library.
‘We did this last year and she really liked it,? said her mother, Holly Chisholm, of Oxford. ‘She’s having some trouble reading, but she really enjoys reading to the dog.
‘She’s an animal lover. We have a dog and two cats at home. She tries (to read to them), but they don’t sit still long enough.?
Children are invited to read to a therapy dog like Charley, a 4?-year-old Golden Retriever owned by Oxford resident Debbie Vanevery, at the library throughout the month of March.

Time slots are available on Wednesdays (March 12, 19 and 26) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays (March 15 and 22) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
