City Manager Carol Eberhardt said local resident Steve Wylie volunteered to chair a group to raise money to replace a recently repaired bridge in Depot Park.
Eberhardt told the council she decided to educate herself on the bridge American with Disabilities Act requirements ? nearly three months after repairs were made to the bridge.
She said there has been a lot of talk regarding the ADA requirements of the bridge, and she recently discussed the issue with Mike Donnellon, facilities manager of Oakland County Parks and Recreation.
She was informed requirements were different based on length of the bridge and waterway it crosses.
Eberhardt said the bridge only has to be three feet wide, but will most likely be wider.
‘We don’t have to put the Mackinac Bridge across the stream,? she said.
She will connect Wylie with city engineer Gary Tressel.
Council member Mike Sabol commended Wylie and said he will thank him personally.
‘This is the type of active thing residents can do for the city instead of being negative through The Clarkston News,? said Sabol.
