The Lake Orion competitive cheer team remains in the running for the OAA Red Division title after a third place finish last week at an eight-team jamboree.
The league title hinges on three jamboree meets in which all schools compete. Lake Orion won the first jamboree at Oxford earlier this month. They finished third at their event last week. The final jamboree event will be held February 7 at Troy.
Coach Nicole Hills said she was pleased with the team’s effort. She noted that one mishap in the team’s third routine cost the squad but said overall they are still improving.
‘It wasn’t what we hoped for but in order for us to have a shot at the championship, we needed to be in the top three and we did. I’m proud that even with a mishap at the end of our round three that we were able to stay in the top three,? she said.
‘We scored seven points higher than we did a few days ago so we were rewarded for our performances in the lower rounds. We just have to drill, drill, drill, to get ready for the coming weekend.?
The lady Dragons will compete at Rochester on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
Competitive cheerleading is performed in three rounds, with each round getting progressively more difficult. Round three includes pyramids, more tumbling and aerial performances. Teams are scored on synchronization and other factors.
