At HealthQuest Physical Therapy in Oxford Township, there’s a very special group of ladies with an amazing story. They’re called the Breakfast Club.
The Breakfast Club is comprised of seven ladies ? Evelyn Griffin, Eva Ward, Sue Lee, Mary Ferguson, Gwen Godkin, Aloha Mitchell and Beverly Johnson.
It all started in 1934 at Daniel Axford Nursery School where Sue met Evelyn.
Throughout their years growing up in Oxford, the group grew from just two ladies to five.
The group of five graduated from high school in 1948 in Oxford, married, worked at local businesses, raised families and continued to see each other at weddings, graduations, funerals and holidays.
Collectively the group has had ten weddings, 17 children, numerous grandchildren and even more great grandchildren.
‘I feel very grateful to be part of such a great group of friends all these years,? Eva said. ‘We always knew we could count on each other to be there for us.?
Sadly, in 2003 the Breakfast Club lost their dear friend and member of the Breakfast Club, Mary Ferguson.
So. what is their secret to staying together all of these years?
Sue said, ‘Friendship, Our past; knowing we all care for each other. When something happens we all worry together or celebrate together.?
It is amazing to see this group of women stay so close.
Fifteen years ago, the group started to meet at Tim Horton’s in Oxford.
They quickly turned to Curves in Oxford to work out and stay fit, which is where they met Gwen.
A few years back, Curves ended up closing and the Breakfast Club didn’t have a place to work out.
Luckily, HealthQuest got the pleasure of meeting the Breakfast Club and welcomed them with open arms.
The Breakfast Club comes to HealthQuest every Monday, Wednesday and Friday followed by a visit to Tim Hortons.
Since they started working out at HealthQuest, they have already made new friends including Beverly, who is now a part of the Breakfast Club.
Julie Richmond, the Medical Fitness Director at HealthQuest said, ‘I knew this group was special when I first met them.
‘If one doesn’t come to exercise, they check up on each other to make sure everything is alright. Their care and concern for each other is a wonderful example of true friendship.?
