It’s no surprise that as August comes to a close we look to embrace hooded sweatshirts and the rush of cooler air.
This preparation for the fall season means many things upon us including football and the ever popular Oktoberfest.
The Greater Oakland Republican Club (GOGOP), based in Lake Orion, is excited to hose their seventh annual Oktoberfest Fundraiser at King Court Castle in Canterbury Village.
The event started slow in its infancy stages only drawing 30 people but now has become the staple event for the GOGOP brining in hundreds of people.
Set for Friday, Sept. 11, the fundraiser starts at 6p.m. and will continue until midnight. Those who purchase tickets early can get in the door for $20 but the price goes up to $30 if tickets are bought at the door.
‘Twenty dollars gets you in the door and gets you everything we offer for food and drinks and we get to listen to great German music,? GOGOP Treasurer Mari-Ann Henry said.
Attending the event will be a host of local republican dignitaries including Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Congressman Dave Trott and Mike Bishop and Representatives Brad Jacobsen and Jim Tedder.
In addition to the dignitaries, there will be raffles for golf outings and restaurants. Guests who attend will be able to sample several Oktoberfest beers in addition to domestic brews. The money raised during the event will stay local and go to supporting area Republicans.
‘The money we raise we give nearly 100 percent goes back into supporting our local republican candidates from the county level on down,? Henry said. ‘Campaign finance laws, the GOGOP is not allowed to finance federal candidates.?
