More than 67 local Healthy Body, Healthy Mind exhibitors set up in the historic walls of King’s Court Castle for the first Orion Area Chamber of Commerce’s expo centered on health.
There was quite an arrangement of booths set up in the upper level at Canterbury Village, and much to do.
Sampling healthy foods, getting a deep tissue shoulder massage, testing strength and balance’the main goal was to give the crowd tangible criteria, like the results from the dynamometer.
‘You squeeze the handle and find out how strong you are,? Oxford resident Ronald Tate said. ‘I found out I was a little weaker than normal.?
So, he’s ‘gonna have to do some more exercises.?
Tate enjoyed all the different displays and types and booths, and the
myriad of samples. He was one of many carrying plates, trying soups, and selecting tooth picks.
Patrons could take a ride along the Soup and Stew Stroll, sampling soups from businesses throughout Oakland County. Or grab bread, sandwiches, sauces, protein shakes, fro-yo, gluten free samples, and learn about vitamins and supplements.
Lake Orion Spartan Nutrition partner Matt Cork recommended a good multi-vitamin, some sort of omega-3, like a fish oil or flaxseed oil, and a probiotic, which is the good bacteria that lives in your stomach and intestines.
‘It helps regulate your immunity,? Cork said about the probiotics. ‘First of all, you’re never alone, there’s billions of little critters inside you. The more good soldiers you put on the battlefield of your gut, they beat out the bad soldiers, strengthening your immunity.?
Booths were set up also centered on getting active, mental health, and spiritual health as well.
Orion Area Chamber of Commerce Director Alaina Campbell said patrons, and their doctors, could look at their health action cards to help focus health goals.
Each card had a space for medications, dosage levels, family history, and the results from many screenings, including a strength screening, posture screening, visual stress screening?’which is really interesting,? Campbell said’an electrodermal screening, a nervous system screening, and ‘something different,? an enneagram personality test, by Tree Side Psychological.
‘We really felt that since the Affordable Care Act passed it really brought the issue of health and wellness to the forefront of peoples? minds, and a lot more people are much more cognizant of being healthy and living a healthy lifestyle,? Campbell said, listing preventative medicine as a token to take away with.
‘We wanted to help encourage people in their walk to become healthier, and of course connect them with all the local resources that we have available here.?
