Clarkston officials entered the 2003-2004 school year with another “conservative” prediction of student population growth, estimating an additional 100 students.
The net growth, in reality, is three.
Deputy Superintendent David Reschke last week said it is a surprise to the administration, and they will launch a study to determine why the projection was inaccurate.
According to the latest figures, the district gained about 30 new middle school students and about 11 high school students. In the elementary grades, however, there was a reduction of 24 students and the Spice preschool program has 14 fewer full-time equivalent students.
The official student population for the district is now 7,954, Reschke said.
State officials use a “blend” of enrollment numbers from the fall and the previous spring to determine how much money will come to local districts in the annual “foundation grant.”
