The season has to end for everyone at some point. For the Clarkston varsity football team, it was in the district championship game.
Flint Carman-Ainsworth rolled over the Wolves, 44-13, on Friday, Nov. 7, ending the home team’s post-season hopes.
While proud of his team’s effort, coach Kurt Richardson was honest in his evaluation of the game.
‘They pretty much dominated the game on both sides of the ball,? Richardson said.
The Wolves two touchdowns came near the end of the second and fourth quarters, respectively, but it was a Cavalier performance the rest of the game.
Nonetheless, the loss was an honorable one, Richardson said.
‘Our kids played hard, and that’s what we asked of them,? he said. ‘They never threw in the towel.?
Clarkston ended the 2003 campaign with an 8-3 record, and Richardson said it has been a good year with a good team. ‘They were a great group of kids.?
As the team prepares for their annual awards banquet and some look forward to next year, Richardson did voice one area of disappointment, the lack of a full crowd in the home stands at both post-season games.
‘Clarkston has had a great tradition of great support from the fans,? he said. ‘I hope this doesn’t represent a slip in that support. These kids deserve better.?
