Clarkston High School’s pop a cappella groups Detroit Voice and Synergy performed at the Inaugural National A Cappella Convention hosted by the A Cappella Educators Association in Memphis, Tenn., April 25.
Detroit Voice performed a 15 minute set of music on the convention showcase stage to a standing ovation.
‘The convention was so much fun and an amazing learning experience. I would do it again if I could,? said CHS senior Nick Strubbe.
The group, comprised of Clarkston High School students in grades 10-12 and under the direction of Clarkston choral director Brian Haverkate, was founded in 2011.
Detroit Voice also got the opportunity to engage in a 1 hour master class with Universal Studio’s ‘Pitch Perfect? and ‘Pitch Perfect 2? and NBC’s ‘Sing-Off? producer Deke Sharon, who praised the group for the quality of their singing and performance.
Both Detroit Voice and Synergy members took in several professional concerts and were also engaged in workshops and lectures on many topics relating to a cappella performance from professionals from around the country during the weekend.
The Clarkston A Cappella program will be releasing a new CD, ‘Clarkston A Cappella ? Volume 1,? on May 8, featuring tracks from the various groups, grades 6-12.
