Former Lake Orion residents Bill and Shirley Bonning dug up some old memories during a visit back to town recently.
On their way to a reunion for retired postal workers, the couple stopped off at The Review to visit and to share some of those memories.
Bill, who worked as a Prudential Insurance agent’before he was appointed Lake Orion Postmaster, retired from the USPS after serving as Postmaster from 1964-1984. Shirley worked as an associate editor at The Review during the late 60s and early 70s.
‘When Jim Sherman purchased’The Review he kept me’as’an employee,? Shirley said, noting she moved to The Oxford Leader, The Review’s sister publication, to work as a proof-reader and features writer after Sherman took over in 1972.
The Bonnings spent 35 years in Lake Orion before moving to Big Rapids in 1986.
‘We have six children who graduated from Lake Orion High School,? Shirley said. ‘We feel they received a fine education, for all six have bachelor’s and master’s degrees from major universities.?
