The Academic Boosters of Clarkston (ABC) and Clarkston Community Schools presents “The Brain and Adolescence: an Informative Night for Parents and Students” Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at Sashabaw Middle School, 5565 Pine Knob Lane.
Roxanne Reschke, Oakland County Intermediate School District consultant, and Darlene Roche, Sashabaw Middle School science teacher will be the featured facilitators of the workshop. ABC members, parents, educators and students in fourth through eighth grades are invited to participate.
Knowledge about the brain has exploded in the last 10 years. New technologies have enabled scientists to study the brain as it is engaged in various activities. Some of this research has powerful implications for parents and teachers. Neuroscientists are providing information about nutrition, sleep, memory, gender differences and many other topics. Reschke will provide parents an overview of this research and an opportunity to think about the research findings from a parent’s perspective.
Students in grades fourth through eighth grade will join Darlene Roche for an investigation of the brain. Hands-on activities will help students better understand how the brain works. Topics include the various memory systems and how the brain interprets information from the five senses. This activity requires advance reservations and $1 for supplies. R.S.V.P by March 20.
Babysitting for younger siblings can be provided with advance reservations and $1 per child.
