AD suggests younger students pay for LOHS sport event

In these days of declining revenues for school districts, LO School District Athletic Director Bill Reiss thinks he has found a way to earn some extra money.
He told school board members in November he would like to start charging elementary students a $2 admission fee to high school sporting events.
“Through the winter this could bring in a few thousand dollars,” he added..
According to Reiss, other school districts charge $2 or $3, although Pontiac still charges nothing.
He said the athletic department has some looming expenses this year including reconditioning of football equipment. The department also has to buy chemicals that are used on such things as wrestling mats to prevent ring worm and on clothing to get blood out.
Additional revenue could be used for extra supervision at games.
“Maybe we should be taking a larger look at this across the board,” school board member Bob Gritzinger said
Reiss said he’s not looking right now at charging admission at the middle schools
He added that Lake Orion is right at the top of the league with its $4 general admission charge and is not contemplating making any changes there.
The school district does have a family admission package — 15 admissions for $30.
School board members gave Reiss persmission to start chargeing elementary students $2, but won’t take formal action until their next meeting
