Alleged embezzler turns herself in to village police

A woman accused of embezzling more than $250,000 from CAM Logic in downtown Oxford is in custody.
Shavon Westley, 35, turned herself in Friday night at the Oxford Village Police Station on W. Burdick St., according to Chief Mike Neymanowski.
Westley was arraigned Sunday morning in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court on one count of embezzlement $100,000 or more (a 20-year-felony) and four counts of forgery (a 14-year felony).
She’s currently being held in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
‘I’m glad she’s where she needs to be and that she’s safe,? said Jim Carlisle, owner and president of CAM Logic. ‘Now, it’s in the hands of the courts. It’s going to be what it’s going to be.?
Village police say Westley embezzled approximately $254,000 from CAM Logic, located at 38 S. Washington St., between 2012 and 2014. Authorities noted that’s the amount they’ve discovered thus far and there could be more.
CAM Logic specializes in three-dimensional scanning and printing technology. The company made headlines last year when it scanned the famous Spirit of Detroit and created miniature copies of the iconic statue.
Westley was an officer manager who had worked at CAM Logic since 2010. After the investigation began in September, she was suspended without pay pending the outcome and never returned to work, according to Carlisle.
Neymanowski said Westley surrendered to authorities after he requested she do so as part of a news story aired Friday on WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit.
‘I told her that it would be very beneficial for her if she came to our Oxford Police Department, or any local policy agency, and turned herself in at this time so she can be processed through the criminal justice system,? he said. ‘It looks like she took my advice.?
The television news station picked up the story about Westley from the pages of the Oxford Leader, which broke the news in its Feb. 11 edition.
In addition to the village police, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team was also looking for Westley. Undersheriff Mike McCabe called Neymanowski on Friday and offered the unit’s assistance.
‘It’s six guys. That’s all they do is go out and arrest fugitives,? McCabe said.
