St. Daniel’s Church in Clarkston once again hosts Angels? Place 5K Race/Walk, Saturday, Sept. 26.
Events start at 9:30 a.m. with a one-mile Funwalk/run around the Mill Pond, new this year. The 5K event through the streets of Clarkston starts at 10 a.m.
Paul Maxwell of Clarkston started the race last year to raise money and community awareness for Angels? Place, a non-profit organization providing support services for persons with developmental disabilities.
‘Twelve years ago, my sister needed a safe, secure, loving environment,” said Maxwell, who serves as race director with his wife, Maggie. “Angels? Place stepped in and placed her into one of their homes. She now has a family and enjoys an active lifestyle, including a daily job.?
Several hundred runners, walkers and volunteers raised about $8,000 last September in the first Angels? Place 5K Race/Walk.
Local businesses donate money, prizes and refreshments, and volunteers hand out food and water, and serve as timers and road marshals.
“This is more than just a race,” he said. “The event brings the community together in fellowship with food, entertainment, prizes and awards, and it provides participants with a very rewarding Christian service outreach experience.”
Live entertainment will also include music and a robotic demonstration by the Clarkston High School FIRST robotics team.
