Time to put your plants in pots and get them ready for Annual Free Plant Exchange and Daylily Sale.
The Friends of Addison Township Public Library are gearing up for their annual exchange coming up on May 16.
‘It’s a great opportunity for the community to get together and share ideas and trade their flowers,? said Friends Treasurer Linda Hodges. ‘The Friends started this as a way to thank the community for supporting us because we’re a fairly new organization.?
It’s been six years from the first exchange and it continues to flourish every year.
Members of the community can put plants they would like to change in a pot and exchange for a new one to try from someone else’s garden.
‘We are trying to get people to pot their plants as early as they can,? said Hodges. ‘So they can be healthy and have a root system established before they trade.?
They will accept all plants except weeds and ask for all plants to be identified.
A Master Gardener will be on hand to help identify plants and help with any questions for green thumbs and future green thumbs.
Children’s activities have also been scheduled for the day. Kids will be able to paint a pot and plant a flower in the pot to take home with them.
‘It’s a fun time,? said Hodges. ‘It’s something the kids really enjoy doing.?
Goodison Farms has donated the daylilies for this year’s sale and there will be three different sizes, from $5-$12.
Members of the Friends of Addison Township Library have a chance to win an ‘out? door prize – hanging baskets donated by different local businesses.
Everyone has an opportunity to become a member during the exchange and help the Friends raise money for a new library.
‘The township has been great for letting us use the facility,? said Hodges. ‘We get good support from the merchants in the area and the township.?
Last year, the Leonard Garden Club helped to organize and is back this year to help out.
‘They have been a really great addition to us,? said Hodges. ‘We are book people. We are not gardners.?
The plant exchange is May 16 from 8 a.m.-noon at Addison Township Complex located at 1440 Rochester Road.
It will be held rain or shine.
