The Oxford Wildcats began their journey of winning the OAA White Division Friday night with a victory over Bloomfield 59 ? 33.
The Wildcats (6 -4, 1-0) never trailed in the contest and by half time had a comfortable 39 ? 8 lead. The Wildcats were led by Jessica Murphy with 28 points and 10 rebounds, earning her first double ? double of the season. Cherilyn Banas distributed the ball well, earning 10 assists and getting no less than nine teammates on the board.
Leading scorer for the Black Hawks was Amanda Moss with 11 points.
Unfortunately they took a loss earlier in the week against the big bad Wolves of Clarkston.
Oxford and Clarkston battled for four complete quarters tonight but the Wolves were able to pull out a 4 point victory 47 ? 43. The first quarter ended in a 9 ? 9 tie as each team came out a little tentative. In the second quarter the Wolves pulled out to a 5 point lead at half time, led by leading scorer Erica Davenport (23 points).
However the Wildcats clawed there way back into the game behind the scoring of Jessica Murphy (22 Points). Oxford managed to take a three point lead in the fourth quarter, but gave up two quick buckets to fall behind. In the end, the Wolves were able to put the game out of reach when Erica Davenport hit two key free throws.
Leading scorer for Oxford was Jessica Murphy with 22 points and Cherilyn Banas contributed 7 points and 7 assists.
‘We are improving each and every game,? said Head Coach Steve Emert. ‘We played extremely hard verse Clarkston in a great game by both teams.?
The Cats will travel to Avondale on Thursday.
‘We look forward to our second white division game Thursday verse Avondale,? Emert told this reporter Monday. ‘But we will not look past our non-league opponent Lake Fenton on Tuesday.?
