Goodrich – When people in days of old wanted to show off their sheep, they had to devise number systems to flaunt their wealth.
Math has been a common factor for every civilization since the beginning of time, said Marcey Walsh, who presented ‘Ancient Answers? at the Goodrich library this week.
Walsh, a former Brandon High School French teacher, brought math and science to kids? level by catapulting marshmallows, beaming in on globes, and demonstrating handmade musical instruments in her Highly Contagious Education demonstration.
Math is the language of science, she told kids, explaining there’s special types of math dealing with circles and triangles.
Once thought of as a bore, math fuels fun stuff like birthday parties, she said, explaining how it’s used to estimated the amount of food, or how many presents the birthday child gets.
