New advances in health care are always on the cutting edge ? especially for women. Still, keeping track of the newest technology and treatment options is difficult, especially in today’s hectic world.
This is where the physicians with Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology can help.
Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology offers some of the latest health care options available to women – and many can be done right in their office.
According to Dr. Paul J. Corsi, M.D., two newer office treatments include Essure and Novasure.
‘Essure is a non-incisional, non-hormonal form of permanent birth control which is easier than a vasectomy,? said Dr. Corsi. ‘There is no impact at all in terms of the patient’s hormonal balance or cycle control.?
The 20-minute procedure is done in office without general anesthesia (a local numbing is done) and allows the patient to return to their daily activity later in the day.
‘This is a highly effective method that does not alter a woman’s hormonal balance and does not require hormone treatment afterwards,? said Dr. Corsi.
Another addition to Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology’s treatment options is Novasure, a treatment for excessive menstrual bleeding (bleeding that interferes with a woman’s daily activities or living, and lasts seven or more days per cycle).
Novasure is a quick, outpatient surgical procedure that permanently removes the lining of the uterus.
‘Heavy menstrual cycles can now be easily treated with a 90 second procedure, which is a great alternative to more invasive procedures like a hysterectomy,? said Dr. Corsi. ‘This treatment is often used when hormonal treatments have failed.?
For women struggling with stress urinary incontinence, Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology now offers two modern treatment methods: TVT and TOT. Both utilize ‘mid-urethal slings.?
‘These are minimally invasive, outpatient surgeries with minimal recovery time,? said Dr. Adam Ziff, D.O. ‘We’ve taken the same diagnosis and we now have the ability to perform the same kind of procedure, with better outcomes, and moved it to an outpatient setting.?
When compared with traditional bladder suspension treatment, TVT and TOT involve minimal risk and a quick recovery time ? most patients return to regular activity with some lifting restrictions after three days. Traditional bladder suspension treatment involves three to five days hospital recovery and an additional six weeks home recovery.
‘This is safe and effective and women don’t have to take a large chunk of time from their life,? said Dr. Ziff.
In addition to these new specialties, Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology recently purchased a new Lunar Prodigy bone density machine, available in the Pontiac office.
Bone density measurements are most often done measuring the spine and hip. The Lunar Prodigy is even able to measure the bone density in a patient that has undergone a hip replacement. Previous bone density machines could not do this.
In addition, the office has an ultrasound bone densometer that will allow any woman over the age of 20 to undergo an inexpensive osteoporosis screening of her heel. If abnormal, a full spine and hip exam could be done.
The Lunar Prodigy can also calculate total body fat composition for those patients attempting to lose weight or re-sculpt their body. Dr. Robins stated that individuals can take their body fat composition results to personal trainers and nutrition experts to better focus on target areas in their physique.
Another excellent service being offered by the practice is laser hair removal. After researching the different options available, the doctors decided to purchase the Gentle-Lase laser.
‘We found the Gentle-Lase had the best results for hair removal on the market,? said Dr. Robins. ‘This same machine is the laser of choice seen on the television show ‘Extreme Makeover.??
Dr. Robins said the process is extremely effective with most patients experiencing the best results after five treatments. Other patients may opt for fewer treatments to simply decrease the amount of hair they have as opposed to eliminating it altogether.
Associated Obstetrics and Gynecology includes a full staff of physicians ready to treat ‘the whole women:?
