Athlete of the Week ? Hannah Wolf

Hannah Wolf, 14, is the Athlete of the Week in recognition of the Clarkston youth’s prowess on the ski hill. Recently at the Junior Olympics held in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colo. from March 6-12, Hannah took third in the Super G competition.
‘On any given day anyone can win, you never know whose day it is,? said Wolf. ‘I was really looking forward to the events out there because I had won two of the qualifiers. It was a good experience this year. It makes me want to do better next year.?
This year she was also one of 18 girls invited to the Olympic training facility from Jan. 17-24, where she took part in the National Olympic Development Program. She was also mentioned in a recent Ski Racing Magazine article covering the Junior Olympics.
Hannah’s ski career started as a leisure activity with her family.
‘As a family we would always go up north and ski. We started getting into a race program up there called Boyne Flyers. I got pretty good at racinf and it was fun? said Wolf.
Hannah found her way into the United States Ski Association races, at the age of 10.
‘I always wanted to get faster. When I was younger, I could never beat the girls that I beat now,? said Wolf. ‘I just always wanted to be faster and I always wanted to do better.?
Her fierce competitive spirit aside, Hannah has become good friends with a number of her teammates.
‘We all live all over the state but we still find the time to visit one another,? said Wolf. ‘We travel everywhere together, so we have to get along.?
This past year was Hannah’s last in the J3 skiing class (13-14 years of age). She will now move up to J2, which features a wider array of skiers and a larger talent pool.
While there is a lot of time involved in training for and traveling to ski races, Hannah relishes the opportunity to compete.
?(Training) starts in summer. Last year we started in May. It’s hard to be away from school, but it’s worth it,? said Wolf.
Hannah lives with her parents Joe and Sarah and 10-year-old sister Elisabeth in Clarkston. When she is not skiing, she likes to relax on Greens Lake, which is conveniently located in her back yard.
Hannah is currently a freshman at Clarkston High School. Her favorite subject is biology.
