About 40 families entered this year’s snowman building challenge, hosted by Independence Township.
“We started this building challenge about four? years ago and it has grown from two families when we started,” said Lisa J. McCoy, recreation specialist for Independence Township Parks, Recreation and Seniors. “It’s nice that we have returning families that enter each year.”
Snowmen competed in two categories, Traditional and Creative.
“We started this challenge to encourage families to get out and do something that is fun and easy, and spend quality time together,” McCoy said.
The program, sponsored by Genisys Credit Union, won Best Family Program 2013 at the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association Conference this year.
