Baccalaureate mixes faith, future

Looking out a crowd of about 50 students, former Oxford High graduate and current Oxford Middle School Teacher, Joe Zmikly recalled seeing about 150 students at his baccalaureate service.
Zmikly, who gave the message at the May 13 baccalaureate service, said the size of the crowd was a sign of the times. A world that has forsaken God and looking for answers to life’s questions.
‘But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer’to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope’that you have,? said Zmikly reading from 1 Peter 3:15.
Zmikly encouraged the graduates as they get ready to step into the next phase of their lives not to lose the hope they have, which will be tested, but to be the hope around them and to be willing to share their faith openly, honestly and unashamed.
Along with Zmikly’s message included a baccalaureate litany read by Master of Ceremony Lauren Chapman, Molly Schultz, Mrs. Tricia Chapman, Mr. Sam Wiscombe and Pastor Matt Johnson.
While OHS Choir Director sang ‘You Raise Me Up,? seniors handed out flowers to parents thanking them for their love and support.
Senior Scott Skilling also gave the class of 2013 a scripture challenge.
The benediction/blessing was given by Father Mike Verschaeve and Senior Kristen Deighton read a poem entitled ‘The Cross.?
The service was closed by Seniors Sunny bogert and Maddie Dickens singing Chris Tomlin’s ‘Amazing love? with Kelly Senger.
