Brandon Twp.- Jacob Bombardo, 7, won a brand-new bike last week. Minutes later, he announced to a gym full of cheering Belle Ann Elementary students his plans to give it away.
Bombardo, a second-grader at the school, was rewarded with the lime green Magna Rip Claw bike for raising $700 for the school in their Fun Run fundraiser, the most of any student. But when his mother, PTA president Shelly Bombardo, told him that he would likely win the bike, he asked her if he could donate it to the OCEF toy drive.
‘I cried when he told me he wanted to do that,? she says. ‘He said, ‘do you think that’s good?? and I said, ‘yes, I think that’s sweet.??
Belle Ann Principal Mark Rodak said he is not shocked by Jacob’s action, as he comes from a very caring, giving family, but is impressed by his thoughtfulness.
‘He thinks of others before himself,? Rodak said.
Jacob explains that he already has a bike, a Mongoose that is not old.
‘I didn’t need a new bike,? he says. ‘I would feel bad if someone else didn’t have a bike, so I’ll give it to OCEF. They might give it to a person that might never have a bike.?
