Bill to help veterans passes state House

Veterans who have experience working with boilers while in uniform would be able to use those skills toward licensing requirements for certain occupations under a bill approved today by the Michigan House.
House Bill 5751, sponsored by state Rep. Brad Jacobsen (R-Oxford), would allow military experience to count toward the experience requirement for boiler installer, repairer and inspector licenses.
‘Our veterans have put their lives on the line to protect us and our way of life,? said Jacobsen, R-Oxford. ‘When they come back from service, the transition to civilian life can be difficult. We need to do whatever we can to make sure they have every opportunity to find employment and prosper in life after their service to our country is over.?
Jacobsen’s measure is the latest in a series of bills introduced this legislative session aimed at helping our military service members overcome the challenges they face after returning home from their tours of duty.
‘We ask these brave men and women to perform these tasks in incredibly stressful and dangerous environments,? Jacobsen said. ‘That kind of on-the-job training should be more than enough to satisfy the licensing requirements for these occupations.?
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
